The inspiration for this was a British Christmas Cracker. On Christmas eve night, I set out a Cracker for each person at our house to be opened after dinner. It is a tradition in many people’s homes and I wanted to start it with my children. My kids love having a small treat to open in anticipation of the following morning. Although my version does not “Crack,” it’s still a fun, small gift to give to fellow runners, as a track club party favor or as a gift to the host or hostess of a track club holiday party.
I started with plain brown wrapping paper (Purchased at Target). You could also use regular holiday wrap and skip this step.
Next, I made a stamp by gluing foam letters onto a piece of cardboard, spelling out “RUN.”
After that, I measured how much paper I needed to cover an empty paper towel tube.
Then, I painted tempura paint onto my stamp and applied it to the paper.
While the paper dried, I filled the tube with small favors… you could use many different items, but I used Nuun, Gu, Vaseline, Colorful shoelaces, Gummybears, Cliff Blocks, and a small nail polish.
Finally, I wrapped the tube with my painted paper, twisted the paper at the ends of the tube to seal it, and tied it in place with ribbon.
Happy Holidays!
What other small running related items could someone put in this Cracker?
Oh, by the way if you drink Nuun they are offering my readers a discount, from now until midnight on Sunday, December 16th, 2012… you can use the code ‘HOLIDAYHYDRATION’ to get 20% off hydration tablets and most accessories.
