That’s it! I’m in LOVE! I have found the one for me. When I look at others, I push them aside, and only have eyes for this very special one. We have had only two wonderful dates however, when you know, you just know. I am convinced that I will be with this one for the long haul. I know what you’re thinking… Isn’t this a little fast? Only two dates? Let me explain.
For quite some time now I have listened to my running friends speak about their “lucky” garments . One of my friends has a pair of red shorts that he has worn in every race since 1996. Another wears a lucky hat, and yet another wears these underwear (I would hate to see those in person). I must admit that I am not superstitious and, although I do not doubt my friend’s love of their garments, I found their obsession just a little silly. That is, until now.
You may know that I am training for my next race, the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Virginia Beach, VA. March 18, 2012. Each week I have been continuing to increase the mileage on my long run. Personally, the “long run” is my most challenging workout. I think that IF I had a strength it would be speed. Endurance has always been challenging for me. The last two long runs were both pleasurable and surprisingly fast …. and I was wearing this shirt.
Could this beauty be the one?
Let me tell you the story of how we met… Over Christmas break, I rendezvoused with my Father in Chicago for a few days of relaxing. Whenever I meet up with my Dad, he loves to take me shopping and I love to go. We hit up Nordstrom’s and I immediately went for the “Women’s Active” department. I saw this shirt from across the room. I ran toward it in slow motion. I felt like there was an instant connection. I mean look at it! Do you blame me? I picked up my size along with a pair of Zella running shorts (which may become my “lucky” shorts when the weather warms a bit)
My Father was pleasantly surprised at how little I put on the counter (oh, how times have changed.. apparently I was expensive in my 20’s, 30’s busy having children, 40’s you realize you don’t need much to make you happy) Nonetheless, very appreciative that my Dad still enjoys taking me shopping.
Here is a picture of our first moments together:
Enter, The Helly Hansen Striped Crew Neck Graphic Tee. It is very light weight, but has kept me at the perfect temperature here in the Washington DC area this winter. It has almost a velvety feel to the fabric, and when you run you feel like you are adorned in your beloved blankie from childhood. I do love the shirt but, really, what made me fall head over heels? That I had two amazing “long runs” in it. That is what sealed the deal for me. I was so pleased with my training runs that I had to snuggle the shirt when we got home. (It’s not a fan of snuggling , became floppy 🙁 … but I insisted)
I hope the temperature on race day allows me to wear this. I might be lost without it and, once I am committed I am fiercely loyal. I can’t help myself. I love my new “lucky” shirt.
So I ask you… Am I rushing into this relationship?
Do you have a lucky something?
Tell me your lucky garment story?
