After I dropped the kids off at school I came home. Looking outside, it was just gloomy the sky filled with fog and rain, ice on the ground and, for the first time in quite some time… I just did not want to go out on my run.
Despite my “inner whiner”, I went out. The first mile was cold, wet and slowish, but much to my surprise I started to perk up. Nice steady pace, legs felt decent. Somewhere around mile 4, I started to think about circumstatnces that come into your life that you cannot control. Often times, darkness will come into your life and no matter how fast I try to get away from it, “it” remains. (Not to minimize certain senario’s because, certainly there are some real problems that are not this easy to deal with, but talking about day to day life issues). Most of the time, we can not control these events or people, just as we can not control the weather. It is going to rain so, you can either sit in your house and not come out or, you can put on the proper gear to protect yourself and get it done. If is pouring down rain you may need a metaphorical umbrella and some laughter to get you through, but the sun will shine again. Don’t let the darkness or a rain storm stop you from living your life, just be prepared and, you can weather any storm.

Next time you see darkness, if you can book a vacation to a warm climate that is great, but if you can’t, then put on your rain gear and, get out and face the storm. It may not be as bad as you think and many times you will feel proud of yourself for making it through a challenging situation. When your done, you can throw your hands up, grab a beer and yell, BRING ON THE SUNSHINE!
