I am not a huge fan of high winds. I can run in rain, snow and heat but, wind? No like!!!! About a year ago, my friend Alison who is always generous with her knowledge gave me this tip… “when it is windy, just run on trails, the trees block some of the force”. Boy was I glad she gave me that tip this morning. It was blustery out there today, so instead of running around my neighborhood, I hit the trails. This is beautiful Burke Lake, Virginia
I was scheduled to do my long run today, 18 miles. I set out and, my legs felt like tree trunks. I thought maybe the wind was slowing me down…wrong. The trees really do protect you from the big gusts of wind. I carried on but had to slow down to snap a shot of these ducks.
It is a little less than 5 miles around the lake so I brought a few Gu’s with me as I planned on doing 4 laps. Around mile 6 I took my first one. So glad they have trash cans around the lake. The last of my Peppermint Gu.. Good bye Christmas 🙁
When I reached the other side of the lake there was a big open area with no trees and the wind was howling… Glad I was on the trail not the road.
Even the Canada Geese were swimming in place..
After my third lap, I was done.. so much for the 18 miler. Windy day or not I love running trails. I feel blessed that I live in an area that they are so accessible and so beautiful!
