For years my Mom and sisters have been drinking cappuccino’s made by their Nespresso machines. They have repeatly encouraged me to purchase one and all this time I have resisted claiming the capsules were too expensive and the machine takes up too much room. Well, after visiting my Mother’s house this November and having a delicious, warm cappuccino made lovingly by her everyday and, sometimes, twice I was sold.
Let me back up…The reason I held out buying one was that I had imagined that the machines would be about the size of a large coffee maker, but I was wrong. The Nespresso Pixie Espresso Maker
is about 11 inches long, 9 1/2 inches high and only 3 inches across..small enough to fit right next to my ample coffee maker. The other concern I had was price and, if it takes too much time to make or clean up, well then forget it, because I don’t have it! As far as cost the machine itself is $249.00 on their web site but you can get it on Amazon for as low as $195.80 and, the capsules are around .60 cents each… not terrible, but not cheap either… keep in mind that coffee is like wine to me.. I love it and, I don’t drink wine, so there. OK, how time consuming is it? Well I timed how long it takes to make one and it is approximately 3 minutes, that includes frothing the milk and, the clean up is as minimal as you can get….just throw out the capsules, rinse and, dry the tray.
When I froth my milk I use the Aerolatte Milk Frother
, which could not be more simple (also use this same tool to make my children’s hot and cold chocolate milk…they like froth too).
For a cappuccino I use about 2 Tablespoons of milk (Latte would be more milk) and microwave for 28-30 seconds.. then remove from micro-oven and froth for about 45 seconds. I found it best to use The Bodum Double-Wall Glasses as they fit right underneath the coffee spout, plus, since they are double walled you won’t burn your hands when you pick up the hot coffee. Then, I sprinkle the top with either Tathitian Vanilla sugar, Vanilla powder or real chocolate sprinkles. On Saturday, or if we are snowed in, sometimes I add a dash of Kalhua! I am so happy with the Nespresso Pixie.. although I still drink regular coffee in the morning, I treat myself to one of these every afternoon… a small thing that brings a big smile. If you like coffee as much as I do you won’t be disappointed. Check one out right here…. Nespresso Pixie Espresso Maker
