I often try to catch myself from becoming to linear in my thoughts. To me, I feel as though it is a bit like jogging in place. I think it is a little a silly (no offense ) when I see someone jogging in place at a stop light. I want to say to them “it is OK to stop for moment and wait for the light…the bouncing up and down is really not doing you any good.” When we think only one way and refuse to open ourselves up to new possibility it does us no good. Propelling ourselves forward, seeing what lay ahead and, keeping our eyes open along the way helps us to experience life outside of a bubble. It is this forward thinking that many life changing inventions were spawn and our country founded on. I really feel that this “right or wrong”, ‘black and white” way of thinking is destroying our country and on a more personal level could be creating some real unhappiness in people. Yes, this thinking can leave us feeling unsafe and vulnerable and can often times leave us feeling hurt or disappointed, but is this the only thing holding us back?.. “fear of being hurt?” I don’t avoid a difficult workout because my muscles will hurt the next day..if fact I like it because I know I am working hard and it tells me I am changing my body. Why should I avoid something as small as being dismayed or even as big as having my heart crushed?” I will recover and, I will more than likely become stronger. If you do the same thing you will get the same result. If I ran at the same pace and distance everyday I would never improve. Change only comes when we push ourselves… our bodies and our thoughts.. it doesn’t require a major change, baby steps are just fine and often these small changes deliver the big results. So the next time you go out on a run try picking up your pace, pinpoint a telephone pole and tell yourself I am going to push myself from this telephone pole to the next. It doesn’t have to be every workout, even once a week is better than doing the same thing from week to week. Also try to catch yourself from thinking there is only one way of doing things, pop your bubble and see what else is out there, you can always go back in to your safe place and, who knows maybe you will find that there is something even greater than you could have imagined waiting out there for you. What have you got to loose? Who wants to jog in place their whole life?… move forward and go see the world… run wiki (fast) and live life to it’s fullest.
