We will be headed out of town on vacation in the next few weeks so I have been busy planning, packing, and doing laundry. As we mothers know, vacation is not really what it used to be. There will be no lounging around sipping Mai Tai’s, but it will be nice to have beautiful scenery and see my kids enjoy themselves. Foreign travel is one thing I really miss these days. Our annual summer trip is always wonderful, but I must admit that I miss being able to take off to a foreign country and explore different cultures. I know I’ll get back to that someday, but until then we do what we can and are tourists in our own state ( which is really fun too, btw). America has so much to offer and so many amazing places to see, especially here in Southern California. I’m grateful and that we can take a small trip each year and cherish the memories I have with my family.
Can you tell that I’m home with kids all summer? All of my posts are centered around crafts and recipes, two of my favorite things to do besides running. I try not to keep my kids too busy, I feel like it’s really important to let them learn how to entertain themselves, but I can’t help doing crafts with my kids from time to time (the ones that are interested in that kind of stuff, that is).
My daughter and I made a DIY jar candle holder with her name on it for her room and since I have a whole slew of empty jars that needed to be up-cycled, I made a few more with 26.2 marathon and 13.1 Half Marathon on them. They are so adorable and sit on my nightstand. They remind me of how strong I am for completing both of these distances multiple times and remind me to continue to set goals for myself.
I have children, so I used battery operated votive size fake candles rather than a flame, but you could put any small candle in one of these jars and it would work just fine. This was so easy to make.. took me less than a half hour and that includes paint drying time. Next time I think I’ll put my running mantra on it– you could use just about any word or name.
