Monday afternoon I had a whole slew of kids over here for an end of school, beginning of summer swim party. It’s finally starting to heat up in SoCAL and I’m glad I had it Monday because the remnants of Hurricane Blanca caused it to rain all day Tuesday. It is so rare that it rains here at all, but in the summer it is practically unheard of. We LOVE it!
I crave any change in weather, but also hope that it didn’t cause to much damage down south. This is when I wish we had regular TV– I’d like to know what happened in more detail, but Apple TV only gives you so much information. I take comfort in the fact that if it were really bad, I’d most likely see something on social media. To be honest, I’m glad we don’t have TV– the news can be so ugly… I kind of prefer being naive.
My kids are always asking for Gatorade. I don’t know why… I personally think it tastes gross, but I guess since they get it in their “snack bags” after baseball and soccer games (another thing I could go on about- do they really need a snack? They can’t possibly get in their cars and go home without starving to death?). I digress… As all of you are probably aware, Gatorade is full of disgusting ingredients. I drink it when I have to, in a race or on a long run, but the majority of the time I make my own. I make multiple flavors and I like mine to be no sugar added (the fruit has all of the sugar I need). I make them in big batches and have them on hand when the kids or I need them. I pack the fridge full of them and they are waiting for me after a long run.
I prefer a more natural taste, so to me this recipe tastes much better than any sports drink I’ve tried, and only takes a small amount of prep– super quick and easy to make.
Making an electrolyte drink at home isn’t as daunting as you might think and is a great alternative to store bought. I also use this when my kids are sick, have the flu, or have been vomiting and are dehydrated. Good for kids and adults. My children love picking out which flavor they want and, with no added sugar, I feel good about letting them drink as much as they want.
